The aims of the East London Orthodox Synagogues' Association are:
To Encourage co-operation between the congregations while enabling them to retain their own proud identities.
To Arrange talks, discussions, quizzes, interviews etc to promote more inter-synagogue activity in the area.
To Organise cultural events in the East End to encourage younger generations from congregations in the suburbs to visit.  Here they may learn the history of the 'cradle of Judaism', visit the remaining synagogues and other places of Jewish interest.  At the same time they will be able to trace their own personal family history.
To assist the Canary Wharf Minyan to organise Mincha services Mondays to Thursdays.
To set up rotas for services to guarantee a minyan in the member synagogues and boost falling numbers.
To provide a volunteer rota to make a minyan at funerals for those families who have difficulty obtaining a minyan.

The Association is trying to alleviate the situation which unfortunately occurs on many occasions when levoyas (funerals) take place at all cemeteries without a minyan.  A 24 hour phone number is available where men can register their names, addresses and the phone numbers where they can be contacted for their availability on occasions when they are able to attend a levoya.  Many levoyas take place on a Sunday.  The main phone number to call to register is: 02085291313.  An alternate number to phone is 02077902394 - Mon -Thursday, 7am to 7pm & Friday 7am to 5pm.  You may also register on the following mobile number: 07932876058.  You may e.mail your registration to: chesedminyanim@hotmail.com   Please try and encourage a friend to register with you.  Ladies  – even though you do not count for a minyan you can persuade your husband, son, grandson etc to register and therefore YOU will be part of this mitzvah, thus emulating our dear ladies of ancient times during the slavery in Egypt who encouraged their husbands not to give up faith and hope that they would be freed from Egyptian bondage. Because of their meritorious actions at this critical time in Jewish history Moses spoke to the ladies first and the men second about the giving of the torah.
