London's East End Synagogues, cemeteries and more......

My personal journey through the Jewish East End of London

God Save the Queen

60 Glorious Years - God Save the Queen

Mazeltov to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth on attaining her Diamond Jubilee

Readers will be interested to see our National Anthem written in Hebrew in the extract below from the 1892 Consecration service of New Road Synagogue, 115 New Road, London E1.  New Road closed in 1974 and amalgamated with nearby Nelson Street synagogue (East London Central synagogue).  Below the National Anthem is a photo of the Consecration plaque erected by New Road synagogue to mark the 1892 event.  This plaque was rescued by Jeecs and is on permanent display in the entrance of Nelson Street synagogue.

My understanding of the Hebrew around the top of this plaque is that New Road referred to themselves as the Sons of Krakov of the House of David - which presumably means their founders came from Krakov.
